When your church creates a website, it expands the scope of your church’s outreach. That’s the fifth reason why your church should invest in a website, building on the last point. Not only does a website create new forms of outreach, but it enables you to reach people you never could have before.
You might be a church of 10 people, 100 people or 10,000 people. With a website, though, you can reach out to hundreds, thousands and even millions more. How? Because the internet is an international highway. There’s a reason why it’s called the “World Wide Web” – people can access the internet from any country. And when your church creates a website, it puts you on this international highway so you can reach anyone in the world.
This is an awesome opportunity!
From whatever part of the U.S. you might be, you can “declare [God’s] glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples” (Psalm 96:3).
That’s one of the greatest things I’ve been able to witness as webmaster for Dulin’s Grove Church. We’re a church in the more rural parts of Charlotte, N.C., but we’ve been able to minister to people from all walks of life in all parts of the world.
Here are some statistics from our website:1
- From February 1, 2018 to January 31, 2019 close to 27,000 people accessed the church website and read the blog. And those numbers only increased the following year (see Figure 3 below).
- Website visitors came from over 180 different countries.
- The website was browsed in approximately 100 different languages.
Beyond these astounding numbers, some of Dulin’s Grove Church’s website users came from Afghanistan, Somalia, Sudan, Pakistan, Eritrea, Libya, Iraq, Yemen and Iran.
“So what?” you might be thinking. Well, these are nine of the top 10 most dangerous countries for Christians to live in.2 This kind of outreach is only possible through a website. It enables churches to share the gospel in places where Christians perhaps cannot go.
To wrap it all up . . .
Through new forms of ministry available on a website, your church can make an impact beyond just your members and local community. You can go from proclaiming the gospel to hundreds to sharing it with thousands. By establishing and effectively using an online presence, your church can “[g]o into all the world and proclaim the gospel” (Mark 16:15).
I hope you enjoyed this! Next time, we’ll be looking at the sixth reason your church should invest in a website: it mobilizes Christians for ministry service. If you have any thoughts or questions, feel free to leave a comment.
