“What do you think is the greatest challenge facing the church today?” At the SES National Apologetics Conference that several of us attended a few weeks ago, Josh McDowell addressed this question. His answer came with surprising certainty: pornography. As a result, I’ve decided to write a blog post every week about this prevalent issue using the book Finally Free by Heath Lambert. It’s the most helpful book on the subject that I’m aware of right now.
I hope these weekly posts will crack open a door to anyone who is struggling with this secretive and spiritually deadly sin to seek help. If you’re in the grip of pornography, know that you’re not alone – many people struggle with this sin. But, God can free you by the power of Jesus Christ – as I’ve personally experienced – and you don’t have to fight alone.
To get the ball rolling, here are some helpful thoughts and quotes from the introduction to Finally Free:
- “People who are trapped in the deceitful web of pornography do not need more information about pornography … This book is about the amazing power of Jesus Christ to free you from pornography.” (p. 12)
- “Jesus’ power is extremely practical, and so this book is practical as well. Jesus will set you free from your struggle, but he also calls you to participate in his work.” (p. 13)
- “Grace is the force that motivates and empowers every strategy in the book.” (p. 15)
