Here are my notes from the final three evenings of revival last week:
Monday: 1 John 3:1-3
- Our privilege: we are loved by God.
- In Jesus, God lavished his love on us, transforming us from enemies to children.
- Our promise: Jesus will return.
- We will be like him, perfect physically, emotionally and spiritually.
- We will see him.
- Our purity: this is the result of our privilege and promise as Christians.
Tuesday: 1 John 5:13
- Jesus can make a difference in your life.
- John wants us to know with certainty that we have eternal life.
- Certainty is possible because it isn’t the size of our faith that matters but object of our faith.
- God gives the ability to believe.
- God enables us to turn from sin.
- God gives eternal life.
- God newly creates.
- God unites us to Christ.
- The Holy Spirit is the bond that unites us to Christ (sort of like an umbilical cord).
Wednesday: 1 John 5:14-20
- We are guaranteed that God hears our prayers.
- Prayer is fundamentally about relationship with God.
- All human relationships are mere shadows the relational nature of God himself as understood in the doctrine of the trinity.
- We are guaranteed protection from sin.
- Once one becomes a Christian, he can’t continue in sin as though nothing has changed.
- Believers cannot sin in the same way they used to.
- The reality of Christ in us wars against sin in us.
- Like the force propelling an airplane overcomes the force of gravity in flight; the force of Jesus overcomes the force of sin in a Christians life.
- In other words, Jesus’ power is greater.
- We are guaranteed security.
- As we live in a world hostile to true life, we are connected to the source of true life.
- Our life in this world is powered from outside this world.
Thank you again to Justin Nash and Jeff Walsh. God blessed us greatly through your service.
