1 Corinthians 15:17-19
The resurrection is so central to Christianity that Paul wrote the following: …and if Christ has not been raised, you’re faith is worthless; you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If we have hoped in Christ in this life only we are of all men most to be pitied. However, since Jesus has been raised:
Christian faith is the one worthy faith.
Jesus’ resurrection confirmed his identity as the one way to the Father (John 14:6). Islam, secularism, atheism, Hinduism, Chinese traditionalism, Buddhism, primal indigenous faiths of tribes unknown may lead to feelings of purpose, well being and security – but only faith in Jesus leads to forgiveness of sins and eternal life with the Father.

Christians are freed from sin.
His resurrection was for our justification (Romans 4:25). Sin’s grip can’t hold us, sin’s guilt can’t condemn us, and sin’s filth can’t contaminate us once we’re in Jesus.
Christian sleepers have not perished.
If Jesus didn’t rise from the dead, no one will. But since he did, all who cling to him can. Even death has lost its sting.
Discussion Starters
1. The resurrection is the centerpiece of Christianity. What do you think is the centerpiece of most churches? At Dulins Grove?
2. Read John 14:6. What does it mean that Jesus is the way? The truth? The life? (See John 1:4; 11:25; 1 John 5:20 for help)
3. Read Romans 4:25. What does Jesus’ resurrection have to do with our justification? (See Romans 5:12-21 for help)
4. Does 1 Corinthians 15:18 teach soul sleep and conditionalism (the AC doctrines that once a person dies, their soul remains asleep until Jesus return and that not all have eternal life (some perish))? Why or why not?
