#5: Money and Possessions

White-13

In Matthew 6:21, Jesus says, ..for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

One principle to help us relate well with money and possessions: What we do with them reveals and determines where our hearts are.

For example, investing a lot of money in your home reveals something about your heart. What do you love that causes you to value your home so much? It might be that you love your family or your comfort or your reputation in the neighborhood. It might reveal that you love God and people and you want to use your home as a center for gospel-driven hospitality, inviting people over for meals, cultivating fellowship and relationships with non-Christians.

Another example (lifted from Randy Alcorn): If you want to grow your heart's concern for those who have never heard the gospel, start giving your money to your church and to missionaries. Your heart will follow.

Where are you putting your money? Why are you putting it there? What do you love? What payoff are you hoping for with the investments you're making each day?
