Some Thanksgiving blessings from Matthew 26:26-29:
1. Jesus comes to us
The Jews knew a fearsome, holy, powerful, transcendent God. At the last supper (and many other times), this same God ate bread and drank wine with them… Remember, God doesn’t demand that you figure out how to reach him, he comes to you in the person of Jesus Christ.
2. Jesus delivers us
The last supper was a Passover observance, the Jewish tradition that reminded them of their deliverance from Egyptian slavery. During the meal, Jesus (shockingly) changed the symbolism of the meal to reflect a new deliverance from slavery to sin. Remember, Jesus frees you from sin’s grip, guilt, and filth.
3. Jesus loves us
And finally, remember that Jesus gave his body and blood for you. You are loved.
