SATURDAY, MAR. 14 – We will not be having any large gatherings March 15 – 25 due to recommendations regarding the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). The Executive Director of Advent Christian General Conference, Steve Lawson, writes:
We have been contacted by a former Advent Christian pastor who now serves in a major hospital and has been in meetings over the last eight days with leading researchers about the serious concerns regarding the spread of the Coronavirus. He reached out to us to encourage our Advent Christian Churches and all churches to seriously consider not having services for the next two weeks to try to limit the spread of this virus. His knowledge of our churches is that we have many older members and children who have direct contact with one another. The children may not show the symptoms but are carriers of the virus and put the older members and those with health issues in danger.
They are urging hospitals to prepare for large numbers of adult patients with serious respiratory problems. We are passing this information on to our pastors and leaders to take these recommendations seriously. At a minimum, encourage older people and those with health issues to stay home in order to avoid contact with those already affected by the virus, but please consider cancelling services altogether.
Please know we are praying for all those who will face issues related to the virus and those who are on the front lines taking care of patients and preparing for what might be coming.
Because “a wise man listens to advice” (Proverbs 12:15), we will be canceling:
- Sunday services, Mar. 15 – 22 (including Prayer Meeting, Sunday School and Breakfast Fellowship)
- Church Prayer Meeting, Mar. 18
- Potluck and Discussion Groups, Mar. 25
The Board Meeting will take place as scheduled on Tuesday, Mar. 17, at 7:00 PM.
Finally, if you find yourself getting anxious as you watch the news these days, remember God’s invitation:
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be make known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.– Philippians 4:6-7
