How Jesus Can Help You Fight Pornography

How Jesus Can Help You Fight Pornography

“Jesus answered them, ‘This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.'”

– John 6:29

Heath Lambert’s big idea in chapter nine of Finally Free is that you must not only seek Jesus for freedom from pornography – you must seek Jesus for Jesus. Lambert writes, “Coming to Jesus in this way looks to him as the comprehensive Savior that he is rather than just as another Mr. Fix-it” (p. 143).

Along those lines, here are some helpful quotes:

  • “Jesus doesn’t exist for our sake … We exist for him, because of him, to worship and serve him” (p. 143).
  • “You need to be the kind of person who fights for a close relationship with Jesus more than you fight against pornography” (p. 144).
  • “You cannot look at Jesus and porn at the same time” (p. 144).

Remaining in Jesus

If we remain in Jesus, we will not remain in the grip of porn. Lambert offers two ways to do this based on John 15:7-8:

  1. “First, we remain in Jesus by having his words remain in us” (p. 145).
  2. “Second, we remain in Jesus by asking him whatever we wish” (p. 146).

In all of this, we need the forgiving and transforming grace that God offers only through Jesus. He who calls us will enable us to come to Him.

“Abide in me, and I in you.”

– John 15:4
